Final Triptych

Another image, a clearer one, is used to counter the ineffective attempt at subtlety of the first set of triptychs. Set in frames that extend past the images, with another Rorschach image in the background, a lateral frame gives an ambiguous reading, implying the idea of perspective that the triptych is working with.
Triptych

Each triptych uses the same images. The triptych above reads naturally downward, letting each image inform and comment on the one below it. The two triptychs below have a central image flanked by two frames which place the center in a context. Triptych 2 is unclear in that the disparate images may be difficult to connect, despite the suggestive and evokative melded image of a crab and Rorschach blot. Triptych 3 presents more freedom of movement, allowing the eye to trace its own pattern among the 3 images; while I am very proud of the enlarged Rorschach blot, its size and distortion being a message in itself, this third triptych is also unclear. My first example seems most effective because of the simplicity in its reading, the universal suggestion of the Rorschach blot, and the clean frames, which are complemented by the two-tone palette.

Thursday, January 26th, 2012People said the appearance of this blog suggests I’m geeky, retro, nostalgic… and they’re wrong. I’m sleek, streamlined, modern (sexy?)– but this theme also hints at anti-beauty, and I like harsh, ugly things as much as I like beauty.
